Lux Way Sunken Garden
The Lux Way Sunken Garden is part of the same project as Lux Way North Rooftop Garden.
The garden was also a mass planting of Yuccas - Yuck!
The OC was keen to convert the space into an edible area with the idea being that residents can cultivate seasonal herbs and grow a small orchard.
Scope - Space redesign
The sunken area (below) had to be excavated and renovated to ensure the tanking was able to be fully reinstated and repaved. The sunken area void had to be built up because of the depth and the need to ensure effective drainage as the area acts as an stormwater overflow for the entire apartment complex.
Scope - soil and plants
The idea behind the space recreation was to allow for a small citrus dominant orchard and the growth of perennial herbs to use in cooking. Approximately 40m3 of lightweight planter soil was pumped into the void as the soil level was built up to the required level.
Results
The garden is in full bloom now with citrus fruit growing on each of the trees and the perennial herbs growing abundantly as understory to the trees.
